Lecture: THE NENETS, NOMADIC HERDERS OF YAMAL (SIBERIA)
Neither the process of globalization nor the Russian government’s policies aimed at exploiting the natural gas deposits found on the Yamal Peninsula have succeeded in changing the Nenets’ way of life. They continue their nomadic existence, herding reindeer and fighting for their survival.
By Francesc Bailón, anthropologist specializing in indigenous communities of the Arctic.
