KLONDIKE GOLD
In 1896, gold was discovered in the Klondike River, a tributary of the Yukon. This event sparked the Gold Rush. Thousands of people left their jobs in search of the precious metal, undertaking a journey of several weeks under grueling conditions—a saga made famous worldwide by writers such as Jack London and Robert Service.
Very few of those who made the journey actually struck it rich, yet the Gold Rush created a lasting cultural legacy that permeated cinema, comics, and advertising. In addition to photographs of the journey to the goldfields, this exhibition showcases the wealth of imagery that the era produced.
